حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، نَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ الدُّهْنِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ:

دَعَانِي خَالِي جَدُّ بْنُ قَيْسٍ فِي سَبْعِينَ رَاكِبًا الَّذِينَ أَخَذُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَجَاءَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَمُّهُ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، فَقَالَ: يَا عَمُّ، خُذْ عَلَى أَخْوَالِكَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ السَّبْعُونَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، سَلْ لِرَبِّكَ، وَلِنَفْسِكَ مَا شِئْتَ. فَقَالَ: " أَمَّا الَّذِي أَسْأَلُ لِرَبِّي فَتَعْبُدُوهُ، وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي أَسْأَلُكُمْ لِنَفْسِي فَتَمْنَعُونِي مِمَّا تَمْنَعُونَ مِنْهُ أَنْفُسَكُمْ ". قَالُوا: فَمَا لَنَا إِذَا فَعَلْنَا ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: " الْجَنَّةُ

Translation

✧ My maternal uncle Jadd b. Qays invited me among seventy riders, those who had taken the pledge to the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar. The Messenger of God ﷺ came to us with his uncle al-'Abbas b. 'Abd al-Muttalib and said: O uncle, receive the pledge from your maternal relatives. The seventy said to him: O Muhammad, ask your Lord for yourself whatever you wish. He said: "As for what I ask for my Lord, it is that you worship Him and associate nothing with Him; and as for what I ask of you for myself, it is that you protect me from what you protect yourselves from." They said: What is for us if we do that? He said: "Paradise."
