✧ Regarding His saying: "And among those around you of the Bedouins are hypocrites, and among the people of Madinah are those who have persisted in hypocrisy. You do not know them; We know them. We will punish them twice, then they will be returned to a great punishment" (Qur'an 9:101). He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on a Friday as a preacher and said: 'Stand, O so-and-so, and leave, for you are a hypocrite. Leave, O so-and-so, for you are a hypocrite.' He expelled them by their names and exposed them. Umar b. al-Khattab had not attended that Friday due to some business he had. Umar met them as they were leaving the mosque, and he hid from them out of shame that he had not attended the Friday prayer, thinking that the people had dispersed. They also hid from Umar, thinking that he had learned of their affair. Umar entered the mosque and found that the people had not dispersed. A man said to him: 'Rejoice, O Umar, for Allah has exposed the hypocrites today.' This is the first punishment, and the second punishment is the punishment of the grave.
