حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدَانَ، ثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، نَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:

دَخَلْنَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ طَعَامٌ، فَقَالَ: " ادْنُوا كُلُوا "، قُلْنَا: إِنَّا صِيَامٌ، قَالَ: " هَلْ صُمْتُمْ أَمْسِ ؟ " قُلْنَا: لَا، قَالَ: " فَتُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَصُومُوا غَدًا ؟ " قُلْنَا: لَا، قَالَ: فَكُلُوا، فَإِنَّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا يُصَامُ وَحْدَهُ، يُتَّخَذُ عِيدًا

✧ We entered upon the Prophet ﷺ on Friday, and there was food before him. He said: “Come near and eat.” We said: “We are fasting.” He said: “Did you fast yesterday?” We said: “No.” He said: “Then do you intend to fast tomorrow?” We said: “No.” He said: “Then eat, for Friday is not to be fasted alone; it is taken as a festival.”
