✧ I missed the evening meal one night with the Prophet ﷺ, and none of our brothers called me. I prayed the evening prayer, then I wanted to sleep but could not, and I wanted to pray but could not. Then there was a man at the Prophet's room, so I went to him and found it was the Messenger of God ﷺ praying. He prayed, then leaned against the pillar toward which he had prayed and said: Who is this? Abu Hirr? I said: Yes. He said: Did you miss the evening meal with us tonight? I said: Yes. He said: Go to the house and say: Bring the food that you have. They gave me a bowl containing porridge with dates. I brought it to the Prophet ﷺ and placed it before him. He said to me: Call the people of the mosque for me. I said to myself: Woe to me from the little food I see, and woe to me from disobedience. I would come to a man sleeping and wake him, saying: Respond. I would come to a man praying, saying: Respond. Until they gathered at the Prophet ﷺ. He placed his fingers in it and pressed its sides, and said: Eat in the name of God. They ate until they were full, and I ate until I was full. He said: Take it, O Abu Hirr, and return it to the family of Muhammad, for there is no food in the family of Muhammad that any living being eats other than it. A man from the Ansar gave it to us as a gift. I took the bowl and lifted it, and it was as it had been when I placed it, except that it bore the traces of the lines of the fingers of the Prophet ﷺ.
