حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَخْلَدٍ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي، ثَنَا سَلَّامٌ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ وَتَعَلَّقَ رِدَاؤُهُ بِالشَّجَرَةِ، فَقَالَ: رُدُّوا عَلَيَّ رِدَائِي، أَتَخَافُونَ أَلَّا أَقْسِمَ بَيْنَكُمْ ؟ لَوْ كَانَ مِثْلُ شَجَرِ تِهَامَةَ نَعَمًا لَقَسَمْتُهُ بَيْنَكُمْ، ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُونِي جَبَانًا، وَلَا بَخِيلًا، وَلَا كَذُوبًا ". ثُمَّ قَالَ: " رُدُّوا الْخِيَاطَ وَالْمِخْيَطَ، فَإِنَّ الْغُلُولَ عَارٌ وَنَارٌ وَشَنَارٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ". وَقَالَ: " مَا لِيَ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَيْءِ مِثْلُ هَذِهِ الْوَبَرَةِ - وَأَخَذَهَا مِنْ كَاهِلِ الْبَعِيرِ - إِلَّا الْخُمُسُ، وَالْخُمُسُ مَرْدُودٌ عَلَيْكُمْ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came forward until when he was at al-Ji'ranah, the people gathered around him and his cloak caught on a tree. He said: Give me back my cloak. Do you fear that I would not distribute among you? If there were livestock as numerous as the trees of Tihamah, I would distribute them among you, then you would not find me cowardly, miserly, or lying. Then he said: Return the needle and the thread, for embezzlement is disgrace, fire, and shame upon its people on the Day of Resurrection. And he said: I have no right to any of this spoils except one-fifth, and the one-fifth is returned to you.
