حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَخْلَدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي، بِخَطِّهِ: ثَنَا سَلَّامٌ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ، وَعَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

أَنَّ قَاتِلَ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، جَاءَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ، فَقَالَ: ائْذَنُوا لَهُ وَبَشِّرُوهُ بِالنَّارِ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ حَوَارِيًّا، وَإِنَّ حَوَارِيِّ الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ".

✧ The killer of al-Zubayr b. al-Awwam came seeking permission to enter upon Ali. He said: Grant him permission and give him tidings of the Fire. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Every prophet has a disciple, and my disciple is al-Zubayr b. al-Awwam.
