✧ I passed by Kufa and entered the mosque. There I saw a group sitting as if their heads had been cut off. I sat at the edge of the group and said to a man: O servant of Allah, who is this man? He said: You seem to be a stranger. I said: Yes. He said: If you were from its people, you would know him. This is Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman. He began to narrate to the people, saying: The people used to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about good, but I used to ask him about evil, so that I might avoid it, and I knew that good would never pass me by. He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, after this good, is there evil? He said: O Hudhayfah, learn the Book of Allah and act according to what is in it. Then he said: Yes, a trial and disagreement. I said: Will there be good after that? He said: Yes, a community with impurities, and a truce upon corruption. I said: O Messenger of Allah, after that good, is there evil? He said: O Hudhayfah, learn the Book of Allah and act according to what is in it. He asked him three times in the same manner, and he said the same. Then he said: Yes, there will be a trial whose gates have callers to the Fire. To die while biting onto a tree stump is better than following any one of them.
