  1. Ibn ʿAbbās

✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting and Asma' bt. Umays was near him, he returned the greeting and then said: 'O Asma', this is Ja'far b. Abi Talib with Jibril and Mika'il (peace be upon them). They passed by and greeted us, and I returned their greeting. He told me that he met the polytheists on such-and-such a day, and I was struck in my body, in my front, seventy-three times between a stab and a blow. Then I took the banner with my right hand and it was cut off, then I took it with my left hand and it was cut off. Allah compensated me for my hands with two wings with which I fly with Jibril and Mika'il in Paradise. I descend from it wherever I wish, and I eat of its fruits whatever I wish.' Asma' said: 'Congratulations to Ja'far for the good Allah has granted him, but I fear that people will not believe me. Ascend the pulpit, O Messenger of Allah, and inform the people.' So he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: 'O people, Ja'far b. Abi Talib passed by with Jibril and Mika'il, having two wings with which Allah compensated him for his hands, flying with them in Paradise wherever he wishes, and he greeted me.' He told them how his affair was when he met the polytheists. It became clear to the people after that day that Ja'far had met them, and he was named Ja'far al-Tayyar (the flyer) in Paradise.
