✧ A woman came wanting [to see] the Messenger of God ﷺ, but she did not find him, so she sat until he came. When he came, I said: 'O Messenger of God, this woman has a need for you.' He said: 'What is your need?' She said: 'O Messenger of God, my father married me to his nephew in order to raise his lowly status, and he did not consult me. Do I have any authority over myself?' He said: 'Yes.' She said: 'I would not reject anything my father has done, but I wanted women to know whether they have authority over themselves or not.'

machine translationKahmas b. al-Ḥasan narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān al-Ḍubaʿī, ʿAlī b. Gharāb and Wakīʿ narrated it from Kahmas, from Ibn Buraydah, from ʿĀʾishah. But ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs, Yazīd b. Hārūn and ʿAwn b. Kahmas contradicted them; they narrated it from Kahmas, from Ibn Buraydah, that a young woman came to ʿĀʾishah and said: "My father married me and did not consult me," then the Prophet ﷺ came and she mentioned that to him. So in the narration of these three it is mursal (with the Companion omitted), and that is closer to the correct view.
