وَبِهِ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مَدَّتْ يَدَهَا بِكِتَابٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَبَضَ يَدَهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ: لِمَ قَبَضْتَ يَدَكَ عَنِّي ؟ فَقَالَ: " رَجُلٌ أَوِ امْرَأَةٌ ؟ " قَالَتِ: امْرَأَةٌ. قَالَ: لَوْ كُنْتِ امْرَأَةً غَيَّرْتِ أَظْفَارَكِ بِالْحِنَّاءِ

Translation

✧ A woman extended her hand with a letter to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he withheld his hand from her. She said, 'Why did you withhold your hand from me?' He said, 'A man or a woman?' She said, 'A woman.' He said, 'If you were a woman, you would have changed your nails with henna.'
