✧ A prophet among the prophets besieged the people of a city until he feared that he would conquer it, and he was concerned that the sun would set. He said: "O sun, you are commanded, and I am a commanded servant. I adjure you to halt for me for an hour of the day." He said: So God held it back for him until he conquered the city. Whenever they obtained spoils, they would offer them as a sacrifice, and fire would come and consume it. When they obtained what they obtained, they placed it, but the fire did not come to consume it. They said: "O prophet of God, why are our offerings not accepted?" He said: "There is embezzlement among you." They said: "O prophet of God, how can we know who has the embezzlement?" He said: "You are twelve tribes; let the head of each tribe pledge allegiance to me." He said: So the head of each tribe pledged allegiance to him, and the hand of the Prophet ﷺ stuck to the hand of one of them. He said: "The embezzlement is in your tribe." He said: "How can I know who has it?" He said: So he had them pledge allegiance man by man, and he did that, and his hand stuck to the hand of a man among them. He said to him: "Do you have the embezzlement?" He said: "Yes." He said: "What is it?" He said: "A golden bull's head that pleased me, so I embezzled it." So he brought it and placed it with the spoils, and the fire came and consumed it. Ka'b said, while he was with Abu Hurayrah: "God and His Messenger have spoken the truth. It is thus in the Book of God. O Abu Hurayrah, did the Prophet of God ﷺ tell you which prophet it was?" He said: "No." Ka'b said: "Yusha' b. Nun, the companion of Musa. And he told you which city it was?" He said: "No." He said: "It is the city of Ariha."
