✧ Rain was withheld during the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ in Madinah, until prices rose and people feared ruin for their wealth, and we feared ruin for ourselves. We said: “Call upon your Lord to send us rain.” The Messenger of God ﷺ raised his hands toward the sky, and by God, we saw not a single white cloud in the sky, and by God, he did not lower his hand until I saw the sky split open from here and there, until I saw piled clouds, and it poured for seven nights and their days, from one Friday to the next, while the sky continued to pour. They said: “We fear drowning; call upon your Lord to withhold it.” I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ raising his hands, and we saw no greenness in the sky, and he said: “O God, around us and not upon us.” He said: By God, he did not lower his hand until I saw the sky breaking apart.
