✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to the people of Qubāʾ: I hear that God has praised you well concerning purification. What is this purification of yours? They said: By God, O Messenger of God, we know nothing except that our Jewish neighbors we saw washing their backsides from excrement, so we washed as they washed.

machine translationAs for its authenticity, I hesitate over it, because in its chain is Shuraḥbīl b. Saʿd, the narrator from ʿUwaym. Ibn Abī Dhiʾb said: he was accused (of lying) (muttaham). Mālik said: he is not trustworthy (laysa bi-thiqah). Ibn Maʿīn, al-Nasāʾī and al-Dāraquṭnī said: weak (ḍaʿīf). As for Ibn Ḥibbān, he mentioned him in al-Thiqāt (his book of trustworthy narrators).
