✧ O people, do not be excessive in the dowries of women, for if it were an honor among people or piety before Allah, the most deserving of it would be the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He did not marry any of his wives, nor did he give any of his daughters in marriage, except for twelve uqiyyah and a nashsh. Yet one of you would be excessive in a woman's dowry until he says, 'I have burdened myself for you with the hanging of the water-skin.' He said: I was a young boy and I did not know what the hanging of the water-skin was.
