حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ النَّرْسِيُّ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عُمَرَ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ الدُّورِيِّ الْمُقْرِئِ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ الْيَزِيدِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ:

كَيْفَ لَا يَكُونُ لَهُ أَنْ يَغُلَّ ؟ وَقَدْ كَانَ لَهُ أَنْ يُقْتَلَ ؟ قَالَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: وَيَقْتُلُونَ الأَنْبِيَاءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ، وَلَكِنِ الْمُنَافِقُونَ اتَّهَمُوا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي شَيْءٍ "، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَغُلَّ.

✧ How could he not have [the capacity] to embezzle when he had [the capacity] to be killed? God, Blessed and Exalted, said: 'And they kill the prophets without right.' But the hypocrites accused the Prophet ﷺ about something, so God, Mighty and Majestic, sent down: 'And it was not for a prophet to embezzle.'
