✧ When deficiency fell among the Children of Israel, a man would see his brother committing a sin and forbid him from it, but then he would meet him the next day and what he saw from him did not prevent him from being his companion, his table companion, and his drinking companion. So Allah struck the hearts of some of them against others, and the Qur'an was revealed concerning them: 'Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary'—the verse—up to His saying: 'many of them were defiantly disobedient.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No, by the One in whose hand is my soul, not until you seize the hand of the wrongdoer and force him back to the truth completely.'

machine translationMuʾammal narrates it from al-Thawrī, from ʿAlī b. Badhīmah, from Abū ʿUbaydah, from Masrūq, from ʿAbdullāh, and he erred in mentioning Masrūq. Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī, ʿAlī b.
