حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ: نَا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ:
كَانَ إِسْلَامُ قَبَاثِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، أَنَّ رِجَالًا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ أَتَوْهُ، فَقَالُوا: إِنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَدْ خَرَجَ يَدْعُو إِلَى دِينٍ غَيْرِ دِينِنَا، فَقَامَ قُبَاثٌ حَتَّى أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ لَهُ: اجْلِسْ يَا قَبَاثُ فَأَوْجَمَ قُبَاثٌ أَوْ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " أَنْتَ الْقَائِلُ: لَوْ خَرَجَتْ نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ بِأَكِمَّتِهَا رَدَّتْ مُحَمَّدًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ ؟ " فَقَالَ قُبَاثٌ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ، مَا تَحَرَّكَ بِهِ لِسَانِي، وَلَا تَزَمْزَمَتْ بِهِ شَفَتَايَ، وَلَا سَمِعَهُ مِنِّي أَحَدٌ، وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا شَيْءٌ هَجَسَ فِي نَفْسِي، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، وَأَنَّ مَا جِئْتَ بِهِ حَقٌّ

✧ The Islam of Qabath b. Ashyam al-Laythi came about because men from his people and other Arabs came to him and said, 'Muhammad b. ʿAbd al-Muttalib has come out calling to a religion other than our religion.' Qabath got up and went to the Messenger of God ﷺ. When he entered upon him, he said to him, 'Sit down, O Qabath.' Qabath was speechless, or the Messenger of God ﷺ said to him, 'Are you the one who said: If the women of Quraysh came out with their head coverings, they would repel Muhammad and his companions?' Qabath said, 'By the One who sent you with the truth, my tongue never moved with it, my lips never whispered it, and no one heard it from me. It was nothing but something that crossed my mind. I bear witness that there is no god but God alone with no partner, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, and that what you have brought is true.'
