✧ Who will guard us tonight? Dhu Mikhmar said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He gave him the reins of his she-camel and said: "Do not be a lukaʿ." I went not far, holding the reins of the Prophet's ﷺ she-camel and my she-camel. I let them loose to graze. Then sleep overcame me. Nothing woke me except the heat of the sun on my face. I looked right and left, startled. There were the two camels not far away. I took them and came to the nearest of the people and woke him. Then I asked him: "Did you pray?" He said: "No." The people woke one another until the Prophet ﷺ woke up. He said: "O Bilal, is there water in the vessel?" He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He brought him the vessel, and he performed ablution with an ablution, not mixing dust with it. Then he said: "O Bilal, give the call to prayer," while he was unhurried. He gave the call, and the Prophet ﷺ prayed two rakʿahs of Fajr, unhurried. Then he commanded Bilal, and he performed the iqamah for prayer. The Prophet ﷺ prayed, unhurried. A man said: "O Prophet of Allah, did we miss the prayer?" The Prophet ﷺ said: "No, Allah took our souls, then returned them to us, and we prayed."
