✧ We attended a funeral with the Prophet of God ﷺ. When he finished burying it and the people had left, the Prophet of God ﷺ said: He can now hear the sound of your sandals. Munkar and Nakir came to him, their eyes like copper pots, their fangs like the horns of cattle, and their voices like thunder. They sit him up and ask him what he used to worship and who his prophet was. If he was one who worshipped God, he says: I used to worship God, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came with clear proofs, so we believed and followed. That is the word of God: "God makes firm those who believe with the firm word in the life of this world and in the Hereafter." It is said to him: Upon certainty you lived, upon it you died, and upon it you will be raised. Then a door to Paradise is opened for him, and his grave is expanded for him. But if he was one of the people of doubt, he says: I do not know; I heard people saying something, so I said it. It is said to him: Upon doubt you lived, upon it you died, and upon it you will be raised. Then a door to the Fire is opened for him, and scorpions and serpents are set upon him. If one of them were to breathe in this world, nothing would ever grow. They bite him, and the earth is commanded to squeeze him until his ribs interlock.
