✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began the prayer, he would say: “I have turned my face to the One who created the heavens and the earth, as a hanif and a Muslim, and I am not of the polytheists. O Allah, You are the Sovereign; there is no god but You. Glory be to You and praise. You are my Lord and I am Your servant. I have acknowledged my sin, so forgive me all my sins; none forgives sins but You. Guide me to the best of character; none guides to it but You. Avert from me its evil; none averts it but You. Here I am at Your service, all good is in Your hands, and I am through You and to You. There is no escape from You except to You. Blessed and exalted are You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite. When he bowed he said: “O Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord. My hearing, my sight, my bones, my marrow, and what my feet carry have humbled themselves to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” When he raised his head he said: “Allah hears the one who praises Him.” Then he would say: “Our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever You will besides.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would prostrate and say: “O Allah, to You I have prostrated, in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord. My face has prostrated to the One who created it, and fashioned its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the best of creators.”
