حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

إِنَّ اللهَ إِذَا أَرَادَ رَحْمَةَ أُمَّةٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ قَبَضَ نَبِيَّهَا قَبْلَهَا، فَجَعَلَهُ سَلَفًا وَفَرَطًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا، وَإِذَا أَرَادَ هَلَاكَهَا عَذَّبَهَا وَنَبِيُّهَا حَيٌّ، وَهُوَ يَنْظُرُ، فَأَقَرَّ عَيْنَهُ بِهَلَاكِهَا حِينَ كَذَّبُوهُ، وَعَصَوْا أَمْرَهُ ".

✧ When Allah intends mercy for a nation of His servants, He takes its prophet before it, making him a forerunner and advance guard before it. When He intends its destruction, He punishes it while its prophet is alive, looking on, and He gladdens his eye with its destruction when they disbelieved him and disobeyed his command.
