✧ A bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “What is your Cistern that you talk about?” He said, “It is like the distance between al-Bayḍāʾ and Buṣrā. Allah will supply me in it with a cup so large that no human knows from what it was created or where its two ends are.” ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb said takbīr and said, “As for the Cistern, the poor emigrants will come to it—those who fight in the path of Allah and die in the path of Allah. I hope that He will grant me that cup so I may drink from it.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “My Lord promised me to admit into Paradise seventy thousand of my community without reckoning. Then each thousand will intercede for seventy thousand. Then my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, will scoop with His two hands three scoops.” ʿUmar said takbīr and said, “The first seventy thousand, Allah will let them intercede for their fathers, sons, and clans. I hope Allah will place me in one of the last scoops.” The bedouin said, “O Messenger of Allah, does it have fruit?” He said, “Yes, and in it is a tree called Ṭūbā. It corresponds to al-Firdaws.” He said, “Which tree of our land does it resemble?” He said, “It does not resemble any tree of your land. But have you been to Syria?” He said, “No, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “It resembles a tree in Syria called the walnut. It grows on one trunk, then its top spreads out.” He said, “How large is its base?” He said, “If a young camel of your family’s camels set out to circle it, it would not complete the circuit before its collarbone breaks from old age.” He said, “Does it have grapes?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “How large is a cluster of them?” He said, “A month’s journey for the pied crow, not turning aside and not tiring.” He said, “How large is a single grape from it?” He said, “Did your father ever slaughter a large animal from his sheep?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “He skinned its hide and gave it to your mother, saying, ‘Tan this, then cut from it buckets for us to water our livestock with’?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Will that satisfy me and my household?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “And the majority of your clan.”
