✧ Gabriel brought the Buraq to the Prophet ﷺ and placed it before him, and it carried him along. When it reached a low-lying place, its front legs lengthened and its hind legs shortened so that it became level with him; and when it reached an elevated place, its front legs shortened and its hind legs lengthened so that it became level. Then a man appeared to him on the right side of the road, and he called out to him: "O Muhammad, to the road!" twice. Gabriel said, "Go on and do not speak to anyone." Then a man appeared to him on the left side of the road alone, and he said to him, "To the road, O Muhammad," twice. Gabriel said to him, "Go on and do not speak to anyone." Then a beautiful, gorgeous woman appeared to him, and Gabriel said to him, "Do you know who the man on the right side of the road is?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "No." He said, "That is the Jews; they called you to their religion." Then he said, "Do you know who the man who called you on the left side of the road is?" He said, "No." He said, "That is the Christians; they called you to their religion. Do you know who the beautiful, gorgeous woman is?" He said, "That is the world; she calls you to herself." Then we went on until we came to Jerusalem, and there was a group of people sitting. When they saw him, they said, "Welcome to Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet." Among the sitting group there was an old man. Muhammad ﷺ said, "Who is this?" He said, "This is your father Abraham." Then he asked, "Who is this?" He said, "Moses." Then he asked, "Who is this?" He said, "This is Jesus, son of Mary." Then the prayer was established, and they pushed one another until they put Muhammad ﷺ forward. Then they brought drinks, and Muhammad chose milk. Gabriel said to him, "You have chosen the natural disposition." Then it was said to him, "Arise with me to your Lord." He arose and entered, then came back, and he said to him, "What did you do?" He said, "Fifty prayers were prescribed upon my community." Moses said to him, "Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for your community, for you cannot bear this." He returned, then came back, and Moses said to him, "What did you do?" He said, "He reduced it to twenty-five prayers." Moses said to him, "Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for your community, for your community cannot bear this." He returned, then came back until he reduced it to five. Moses said to him, "Return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for your community." He said, "I am too shy of my Lord to go back to Him again. He has said to me: For every return you made, you have a request that I will grant you."
