✧ ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ al-Sadūsī

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو بِلَالٍ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّهْشَلِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ الْقُرَشِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

أَتَيْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فِي حَاجَةٍ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، قُلْتُ لَهُ: تَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ إِذَا لَقِيتَ أَبَاكَ فَسَلْهُ ". قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: فَلَقِيتُ أَبِي عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ " فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَفَعَلْنَاهُ

✧ I came to Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ for a need and saw him relieve himself and wipe over his leather socks. I said to him: 'Do you wipe over leather socks?' He said: 'Yes, when you meet your father, ask him.' Ibn ʿUmar said: 'I met my father ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb and asked him about that. He said: 'Yes, the Messenger of God ﷺ did it, so we did it.'
