"The Prophet would perform Wudu for every Salat. So during the year of the Conquest, he performed all of the prayers with one Wudu, and he wiped over his Khuff. So Umar said, 'You did something that you have not done before?' He replied: "I did it on purpose."

machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: This is a good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) hadith. ʿAlī b. Qādim narrated this hadith from Sufyān al-Thawrī and added to it: "He performed ablution once, once." He said: Sufyān al-Thawrī also narrated this hadith from Muḥārib b. Dithār, from Sulaymān b. Buraydah, that the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution for every prayer. Wakīʿ narrated it from Sufyān, from Muḥārib b. Dithār, from Sulaymān b. Buraydah, from his father. He said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī and others narrated it from Sufyān, from Muḥārib b. Dithār, from Sulaymān b. Buraydah, from the Prophet ﷺ as a mursal report, and this is sounder than the hadith of Wakīʿ. The practice according to the people of knowledge is on this: that a person may pray several prayers with one ablution as long as he does not break it. Some of them used to perform ablution for every prayer as a recommended act and out of desire for virtue. It is narrated from al-Ifrīqī, from Abū Ghuṭayf, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever performs ablution while already in a state of purity, Allah records for him ten good deeds for it." This chain is weak (ḍaʿīf). On this topic there is also a report from Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh that the Prophet ﷺ prayed ẓuhr and ʿaṣr with one ablution.
