✧ ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ al-Sadūsī

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: نَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُنَا، وَمَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا السَّلْفُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ، فَنَقْسِمُهُ قَبْضَةً قَبْضَةً، حَتَّى نَنْتَهِيَ إِلَى تَمْرَةٍ تَمْرَةٍ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: وَمَا عَسَى أَنْ يَنْفَعَكُمْ تَمْرَةٌ تَمْرَةٌ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا تَقُلْ ذَاكَ، فَوَاللهِ مَا عَدَا أَنْ فَقَدْنَاهَا، اخْتَلَلْنَا

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ would send us out and we had no food except salaf of dates. We would divide them handful by handful until we ended up with date by date. He said: I said: 'And what benefit can a single date, one by one, give you?' He said: 'Do not say that. By God, as soon as we lost it, we became disordered.'
