  1. Abū Hurayrah

✧ A man came to the Messenger of God ﷺ seeking hospitality, but he did not have anything to host him with. He said, "Is there any man who will host this one, may God have mercy on him?" A man from the Ansar came and took him to his home. He said to his wife, "Honor the guest of the Messenger of God ﷺ." She said, "By God, we have nothing but the children's food." He said, "Put the children to sleep, light the lamp, and bring it near to the guest of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and make him think we are eating with him. Then extinguish the lamp and leave it to the guest of the Messenger of God ﷺ." She did so. He said: Abu Talhah came to the Prophet ﷺ the next day, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "God has marveled—or: laughed—at so-and-so and so-and-so," meaning Abu Talhah and his wife. And He revealed about them this verse: "And they prefer others over themselves, even if they are in privation."
