وَعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ:
أَصَابَ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَحْطٌ وَمَجَاعَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، فَخَطَبَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، فَقَامَ نَاسٌ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَلَكَتِ الْأَمْوَالُ، وَخَشِينَا الْهَلَاكَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا، وَغَلَا السِّعْرُ وَقَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ، ادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يَسْقِيَنَا، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: وَمَا أَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ مِنْ بَيْضَاءَ، فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ ﷺ فَدَعَا، فَوَاللهِ مَا ضَمَّ إِلَيْهِ يَدَهُ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ السَّحَابَ يَجِيءُ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَمِنْ هَاهُنَا، وَصَارَتْ رُكَامًا، ثُمَّ سَالَتْ سَبْعَةَ أَيَّامٍ، حَتَّى وَاللهِ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ الشَّابَّ لَيَهِمُّ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْمَطَرِ. فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ الْأُخْرَى، وَخَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَامَ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، تَهَدَّمَتِ الْبُيُوتُ، وَانْقَطَعَتِ الطُّرُقُ، ادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يَحْبِسَهَا عَنَّا، فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَبَسَّمَ، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا. قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَمَا أَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ مِنْ خَضْرَاءَ، فَلَا وَاللهِ، مَا قَبَضَ يَدَهُ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ السَّمَاءَ تَتَقَطَّعُ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ، فَأَصْبَحَتْ وَإِنَّ مَا حَوْلَهَا كَوْرٌ
Translation
Chain of narrators

✧ The people of Madinah were afflicted by severe drought and famine. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on the pulpit and delivered the Friday sermon. Some people stood and said: O Messenger of Allah, wealth has perished, we fear destruction for ourselves, prices have risen and rain has stopped. Ask Allah to send us rain. Anas said: I did not see any white cloud in the sky. He ﷺ stretched out his hand and supplicated. By Allah, he had hardly drawn back his hand before I saw clouds coming from here and from there, and they became piled up. Then rain fell for seven days, until by Allah a young man could hardly return to his family because of the severity of the rain. On the following Friday, while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon, some people from the mosque stood and said: O Messenger of Allah, houses have collapsed and roads are cut off; ask Allah to withhold it from us. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smile, then he raised his hands and said: “Around us, not upon us.” Anas said: I did not see any green in the sky. By Allah, he had not withdrawn his hand before I saw the sky clearing from here and here around Madinah, and in the morning, what surrounded it was like a ring.
