When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his expedition and gained victory over them, he saw a boy who had fallen from a lookout post of his, and the boy was digging in the ground. A caller announced: “Where is the questioner?” The man came to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited killing children. Then he said: “Allah knows best what they would have done.”
