✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me the call to prayer, saying, "Say: God is most great, God is most great; God is most great, God is most great. I bear witness that there is no god but God; I bear witness that there is no god but God. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Then repeat, and say: I bear witness that there is no god but God; I bear witness that there is no god but God. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Come to prayer; come to prayer. Come to success; come to success. God is most great; God is most great. There is no god but God."

machine translationAl-Shāfiʿī says that at the beginning of the adhān one says Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, four times, and he held that this is preserved through the transmission of trustworthy (thiqah) memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) in the ḥadīth of ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd and the ḥadīth of Abū Maḥdhūrah, and that it is an addition which must be accepted.
