"From Ibn al-Musayyab (): He said: ʿUmar wanted to take the house of al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib and add it to the mosque, but al-ʿAbbās refused to give it to him. ʿUmar said: 'I will take it.' He said: 'Then make Ubayy b. Kaʿb judge between me and you.' He said: 'Yes.' So they went to Ubayy and mentioned it to him. Ubayy said: 'It was revealed to Sulaymān b. Dāwūd to build Bayt al-Maqdis, and the land belonged to a man, so he bought the land from him. When he gave him the price, he said: Is what you gave me better, or what you took from me? He said: Rather, what I took from you. He said: Then I do not accept it. Then he bought it from him for something greater than that. The man did the same two or three times. So Sulaymān stipulated to him: I will buy it from you at your own judgement, so do not ask me which of the two is better. He said: Yes. So he bought it from him at his own judgement, and he judged twelve qinṭārs of gold. Sulaymān found it too great to give him, so it was revealed to him: If you are giving him from something that is yours, then you know best; but if you are giving him from our provision, then give him until he is satisfied. So he did so.' He said: 'And I see that al-ʿAbbās has more right to his house until he is satisfied.' Al-ʿAbbās said: 'Since you have ruled in my favour, I make it a charity for the Muslims.'"
