I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whomever we appoint from among you to a task, and he conceals from us a needle or anything above that, it is misappropriation, which he will bring with him on the Day of Resurrection.” He said: Then a black man from the Ansar stood up to him —I can still picture him— and said: O Messenger of Allah, relieve me of your assignment. He said: “What is the matter with you?” He said: I heard you say such and such. He said: “And I say it now: Whomever we appoint from among you to a task, let him bring what is little and what is much; whatever he is given from it, he may take, and whatever he is forbidden from, he must refrain.”
