What scholars said about it
In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.
- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationThe hadith of Hammām is also mistaken, and the correct version is what Shuʿbah said; Hammām is not someone whom Shuʿbah would contradict me with. He mentioned something contrary to this in another place, saying: It is said that Shuʿbah erred in his name when he said in it, "Minhāl b. Milḥān."
machine translationThe hadith of Hammām is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Shuʿbah. He said: Minhāl b. Milḥān is not known among the Companions, and the correct name is Qatādah b. Milḥān al-Qaysī. His son ʿAbd al-Malik was alone in narrating from him, and Qatādah is counted among the people of Basra.
