machine translationAl-ʿAlāʾ said: O Allah, my father narrated to me from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, the same. Abū Dāwūd said: It was narrated by al-Thawrī, Shibl b. al-ʿAlāʾ, Abū ʿUmays and Zuhayr b. Muḥammad from al-ʿAlāʾ. Abū Dāwūd said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān did not narrate it. I said to Aḥmad: Why? He said: Because he held that the Prophet ﷺ used to join Shaʿbān to Ramadan, and he reported from the Prophet ﷺ something contrary to it. Abū Dāwūd said: In my view this is not contrary to it, and no one reported it other than al-ʿAlāʾ from his father.
