  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThis hadith has a defect (ʿillah). Ibn Lahīʿah narrated it from Sulaymān b. Mūsā, from Makḥūl, from a freed slave of ʿAnbasah b. Abī Sufyān, from ʿAnbasah, from Umm Ḥabībah, from the Prophet ﷺ. My father said: This is evidence that Makḥūl did not meet ʿAnbasah, and the narration of Ibn Lahīʿah has corrupted it. I said to my father: Why did you judge by the narration of Ibn Lahīʿah, when you know Ibn Lahīʿah and his many errors? My father said: In the narration of Ibn Lahīʿah there is the addition of a man; had it been the omission of a man, it would have been easier for Ibn Lahīʿah to remember it.

  • Mizzī

machine translationMore than one narrated it thus from Makḥūl, and this is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version, that is, with the mention of ʿAnbasah b. Abī Sufyān and not Muḥammad b. Abī Sufyān.

  • Ibn ʿAsākir

machine translationGharīb (rare) from the hadith of ʿUtbah; it is preserved (maḥfūẓ) from the hadith of ʿAnbasah.
