machine translationIt was narrated by Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. al-Ḥārith al-Taymī and ʿUthmān b. Ḥakīm al-Anṣārī Abū Sahl, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī ʿAmrah, and they differed over whether it is raised (marfūʿ) or stopped (mawqūf). Abū Ḥafṣ al-Abbār ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated it from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. al-Ḥārith, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, from the Prophet ﷺ. Mālik, Ḥammād b. Zayd, ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak and Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah contradicted him, and narrated it from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd as stopped (mawqūf), not raised, except that Ibn ʿUyaynah said: from Yaḥyā, from a man, and did not say Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm. Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAlqamah narrated it from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from Ibn Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, also as stopped. Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr said: from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from a man whom he did not name, from ʿUthmān; this was said by ʿAnbasah b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid, from Muḥammad b. Yaʿqūb, from Yaḥyā. ʿAlī b. al-Mubārak said: from Yaḥyā, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from ʿUthmān, as raised also, and he did not mention Ibn Abī ʿAmrah. ʿUthmān b. Ḥakīm narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī ʿAmrah, and there was disagreement about him: al-Thawrī narrated it from ʿUthmān as raised, and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Ziyād followed him and also raised it. Marwān b. Muʿāwiyah al-Fazārī narrated it from ʿUthmān b. Ḥakīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, as stopped, and Hushaym b. Bashīr followed him and also stopped it. Bukayr b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ashajj narrated it from Samʿān, the freed slave of Khuzāʿah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, as stopped. Al-ʿAṭṭāf b. Khālid narrated it from his brother ʿAbdullāh, from Ibn Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, who said: "We used to be told that attending the ʿatamah (night prayer)...", and he did not say "from the Prophet ﷺ". Ayyūb b. Sayyār raised it, from a shaykh of his called ʿUthmān b. Jābir al-Taymī, from Ibn Abī ʿAmrah, from ʿUthmān, from the Prophet ﷺ. The closest to correct is the hadith of al-Thawrī, and Muslim has recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ.
