machine translationBusr heard from Wāthilah, and Busr often narrates from Abū Idrīs, so Ibn al-Mubārak erred and thought that this was among what is narrated from Abū Idrīs from Wāthilah. But Busr heard this hadith from Wāthilah himself, because the people of Syria know their own hadith best.

machine translationThey consider that Ibn al-Mubārak made an error (wahm) in this hadith: he inserted Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī between Busr b. ʿUbaydillāh and Wāthilah. ʿĪsā b. Yūnus, Ṣadaqah b. Khālid and al-Walīd b. Muslim narrated it, and all of them said, from Ibn Jābir, from Busr b. ʿUbaydillāh, who said: I heard Wāthilah b. al-Asqaʿ narrating from Abū Marthad al-Ghanawī, from the Prophet ﷺ. My father said: Busr heard a great deal from Wāthilah, and Busr often narrates from Abū Idrīs, so Ibn al-Mubārak erred and thought that this was among what is narrated from Abū Idrīs from Wāthilah. But Busr heard this hadith from Wāthilah himself, because the people of Syria know their own hadith best.

machine translationʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Yazīd b. Jābir narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Al-Walīd b. Muslim, Ṣadaqah b. Khālid, Bakr b. Yazīd al-Ṭawīl, Muḥammad b. Shuʿayb, Ayyūb b. Suwayd and others narrated it from Ibn Jābir, from Busr b. ʿUbaydillāh, from Wāthilah b. al-Asqaʿ, from Abū Marthad. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak and Bishr b. Bakr differed from them and narrated it from Ibn Jābir, from Busr, from Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī, from Wāthilah b. al-Asqaʿ, from Abū Marthad. The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is what al-Walīd and those who followed him said from Ibn Jābir, without mentioning Abū Idrīs in it. Wuhayb b. Khālid narrated it from Ibn Jābir with another chain, from al-Qāsim b. Mukhaymirah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, and he was not corroborated in it. The sound (ṣaḥīḥ) one is the hadith of Wāthilah from Abū Marthad.
