"While we were traveling with the Prophet in part of Athaya Ar-Rawha and they were in Ihram, we saw a wounded onager, the Messenger of Allah said: "Leave it, for soon the one who wounded it will come,' then a man from Bahz came, and he was the one who had wounded the onager. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it is up to you what you do with this onager,' The Messenger of Allah ordered Abu Bakr to distribute it among the people."

machine translationYaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī narrated this hadith from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from ʿĪsā b. Ṭalḥah, from ʿUmayr b. Salamah, from al-Bahzī, from the Prophet ﷺ. My father said: Al-Awzāʿī narrated it, abbreviated it, and did not transmit it well. I said to my father: Which of the two is closer to being correct? He said: The hadith of Ibn al-Hād is closer, because the hadith of Ibn al-Hād mentions al-Bahzī, and the hadith is from ʿUmayr, and the one whose donkey was struck was al-Bahzī.

machine translationAl-Dāraqutnī was asked about it and said: Ibn ʿUyaynah was alone in narrating it from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd. Al-Dāraqutnī narrated it from Abū ʿUmar Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Qāḍī, from Ismāʿīl b. Isḥāq, from ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, from Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah, and he mentioned it. ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī said: I said to Sufyān, when I came to this hadith, this hadith from ʿĪsā b. Ṭalḥah from his father, that it is with al-Thaqafī, from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from ʿĪsā b. Ṭalḥah, from ʿUmayr b. Salamah, from al-Bahzī. Sufyān said: I thought it was from Ṭalḥah, but I am not certain of it; as for the hadith, I have brought it to you. Al-Dāraqutnī said: The correct view according to us is that ʿUmayr b. Salamah narrated this hadith from the Prophet ﷺ, with no one between him and the Prophet ﷺ.

machine translationAnd the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) report in our view is that ʿUmayr b. Salamah narrated this hadith from the Prophet ﷺ, with no one between him and the Prophet ﷺ.
