- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationWahb Allāh b. Rāshid also narrated from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, a ḥadīth on this subject in which he erred in both its chain and its text. Likewise Muḥammad b. Bakr al-Bursānī narrated it from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, from Anas. This is a mistake about which there is no doubt; I do not know from whom it came. Yūnus's narration of this ḥadīth is only from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, as a mursal report. Some narrate it from him, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, as a connected (musnad) report, but those who narrate it from him as mursal are more numerous and better memorizers. As for the saying "and behind it", it is not sound in this ḥadīth; it is a rejected (munkar) wording in it that none of its narrators say.

machine translationAll the people of ḥadīth consider the mursal report on this matter to be the more authentic.
in سنن النسائي, p. 1946 - al-Bukhari
machine translationThe authentic ḥadīth is this one, meaning the mursal one.
in سنن النسائي, p. 1946 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translational-Bayhaqī chose to give preference to the connected (mawṣūl) version because it is from the narration of Ibn ʿUyaynah, who is trustworthy and a memorizer (thiqah ḥāfiẓ).

machine translationIt is only from al-Zuhrī as mursal. The ḥadīth of Sālim is an action of Ibn ʿUmar, and the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUyaynah is an error.

machine translationHe connected its chain (waṣalahu) by mistake; the correct form is that it is mursal.

machine translational-Dāraquṭnī mentioned in al-ʿIlal much disagreement about it on the authority of al-Zuhrī. He said: The correct report is that of those who said: from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, that he used to walk. He said: And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr and ʿUmar walked.

machine translationThis is an error, and the correct version is mursal.
in سنن النسائي, p. 1946 - Aḥmad ibn Shuʿayb al-Nasāʾī
machine translationThis too is a mistake; the correct form is that it is mursal. It came about, in my view, and Allah knows best, because al-Zuhrī narrated the ḥadīth from Sālim, from his father, that he used to walk in front of the funeral procession. He said: The Prophet ﷺ, Abū Bakr and ʿUmar used to walk in front of the funeral procession. And his saying "The Prophet ﷺ used to..." is merely from the words of al-Zuhrī. Ibn al-Mubārak said: The reliable memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) from Ibn Shihāb are three: Mālik, Maʿmar and Ibn ʿUyaynah. When two agree on a statement, we take it and leave the statement of the other. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān told us: Ibn al-Mubārak mentioned this remark in connection with this ḥadīth.
