What scholars said about it
In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.
- Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationIt is stronger than the hadith of Wāʾil b. Ḥujr, for the former has a corroborating report (shāhid) from the hadith of Ibn ʿUmar, which Ibn Khuzaymah declared authentic (ṣaḥḥaḥa).
machine translationThe hadiths about placing the hands before the knees are preferable. He said: the hadith of Abū Hurayrah ought to be included among the fair (ḥasan) hadiths according to the method of al-Tirmidhī, because its narrators are free from criticism (jarḥ).
machine translationThe hadith mentioned first, meaning "and let him place his hands, then his knees", is an indication by the Prophet's own words, and it is supported by the hadith of Ibn ʿUmar.
machine translationIn ʿĀriḍat al-Aḥwadhī, he gave preference to the hadith of Abū Hurayrah over the hadith of Wāʾil from another angle. He said: the posture that Mālik held, which is the posture narrated in the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, is transmitted in the practice of the people of Medina in prayer, so it is preferred over others on that basis.
