أَخْبَرَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
لَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَجُلٌ رَقِيقٌ إِذَا قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ لَمْ يَمْلِكْ دَمْعَهُ فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ غَيْرَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ «وَمَا بِي إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَشَاءَمَ النَّاسُ بِمَقَامِ أَوَّلِ مَنْ يَقُومُ مَقَامَ تَعْنِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَاجَعَتْهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا» قَالَ «مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَإِنَّكُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ»

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill, he said: “Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man; when he recites the Quran, he cannot control his tears. If only you would order someone other than Abu Bakr.” She said: “My only concern was that the people might regard it as a bad omen for the first person to stand in the place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” She repeated her request two or three times. He said: “Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer, for you are like the companions of Yusuf.”
