أَخْبَرَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ

لَمَّا اشْتَكَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ شَكْوَهُ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ قَالَ «لَيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَجُلٌ رَقِيقٌ وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُ دَمْعَهُ حِينَ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لِيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَرَاجَعَتْهُ عَائِشَةُ» فَقَالَ «لَيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَإِنَّكُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ» خَالَفَهُ مَعْمَرٌ

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was suffering from the illness of which he died, he said: “Let Abu Bakr lead the people in prayer.” Aisha said: “O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man, and he cannot control his tears when he recites the Quran. Order Umar b. al-Khattab to lead the people in prayer.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Let Abu Bakr lead the people in prayer.” Aisha repeated her request, and he said: “Let Abu Bakr lead the people in prayer, for you are like the companions of Yusuf.” Ma'mar contradicted this.
