أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي زُبَيْدٍ وَاسْمُهُ عَبْثَرُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ قَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ لَوْ عَرَّسْتَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ تَنَامُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ» فَقَالَ بِلَالٌ أَنَا أَحْفَظُكُمْ فَاضْطَجَعُوا فَنَامُوا وَأَسْنَدَ بِلَالٌ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ فَاسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ يَعْنِي طَلَعَ حَاجِبُ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ «يَا بِلَالُ أَيْنَ مَا قُلْتَ؟» قَالَ مَا أُلْقِيَتْ عَلَيَّ نَوْمَةٌ مِثْلُهَا قَطُّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللهَ قَبَضَ أَرْوَاحَكُمْ حِينَ شَاءَ فَرَدَّهَا حِينَ شَاءَ قُمْ يَا بِلَالُ فَآذِنِ النَّاسَ بِالصَّلَاةِ» فَقَامَ بِلَالٌ فَأَذَّنَ فَتَوَضَّأَ يَعْنِي حِينَ ارْتَفَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when some of the people said: If only you would camp for us, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "I fear that you will sleep through the prayer." Bilal said: I will wake you. So they lay down and slept, and Bilal leaned his back against his mount. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up when it means the edge of the sun had risen. He said: "O Bilal, where is what you said?" He said: I have never had such a sleep thrown upon me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah took your souls when He willed and returned them when He willed. Get up, O Bilal, and announce the prayer to the people." So Bilal got up and made the call to prayer, and he performed ablution meaning when the sun had risen, then he stood and prayed with them.
