أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الدُّؤَلِيِّ أَنَّ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ غَزَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةً قِبَلَ نَجْدٍ فَأَدْرَكَتْهُمُ الْقَائِلَةُ يَوْمًا فِي وَادٍ كَثِيرِ الْعِضَاهِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ فِي الْعِضَاهِ يَسْتَظِلُّونَ بِالشَّجَرِ وَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ فَعَلَّقَ بِهَا سَيْفِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِرَجُلٍ عِنْدَهُ «إِنَّ هَذَا اخْتَرَطَ سَيْفِي وَأَنَا نَائِمٌ فَاسْتَيْقَظْتُ وَهُوَ فِي يَدِهِ صَلْتًا» فَقَالَ لِي «مَنْ يَمْنَعُكَ مِنِّي؟» فَقُلْتُ «اللهُ» فَقَالَ لِي «مَنْ يَمْنَعُكَ مِنِّي؟» فَقُلْتُ «اللهُ فَشَامَ السَّيْفَ وَجَلَسَ وَهُوَ ذَا جَالِسٌ ثُمَّ لَمْ يُعَاقِبْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ»

✧ He informed him that he went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ toward Najd. One day, the midday rest overtook them in a valley with many thorny trees. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismounted, and the people dispersed among the thorny trees seeking shade under the trees. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismounted under a tree and hung his sword on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man who was with him: "This man drew my sword while I was asleep. I woke up and it was in his hand, unsheathed." He said to me, "Who will protect you from me?" I said, "Allah." He said to me, "Who will protect you from me?" I said, "Allah." Then he sheathed the sword and sat down, and there he is, sitting. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not punish him.
