أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا زَيْدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَفْلَحُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بُرَيْدَةُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ فَرْوَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ عَنْ غُلَامٍ لِجَدِّهِ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَسْعُودٌ قَالَ
مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ لِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَا مَسْعُودُ ائْتِ أَبَا تَمِيمٍ يَعْنِي مَوْلَاهُ فَقُلْ لَهُ يَحْمِلُنَا عَلَى بَعِيرٍ وَيَبْعَثُ إِلَيْنَا بِزَادٍ وَدَلِيلٍ يَدُلُّنَا فَجِئْتُ إِلَى مَوْلَايَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَبَعَثَ مَعِي بِبَعِيرٍ وَوَطْبٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ فَجَعَلْتُ آخُذُ بِهِمْ فِي أَخْفَى الطَّرِيقِ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي وَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ الْإِسْلَامَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمَا فَجِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ خَلْفَهُمَا فَدَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي صَدْرِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقُمْنَا خَلْفَهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abū Bakr passed by me, and Abū Bakr said to me: “O Masʿūd, go to Abū Tamīm—meaning his client—and tell him to provide us with a camel for riding, and to send us provisions and a guide to lead us.” So I went to my master and informed him, and he sent with me a camel and a skin of milk. I took them along the most hidden path, and when the time for prayer came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to pray, and Abū Bakr stood at his right side. I had learned Islam and was with them, so I came and stood behind them. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pushed Abū Bakr in the chest, and we stood behind him.
