أَخْبَرَنِي هِلَالُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مُقَنَّعٌ فِي الْحَدِيدِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ أَكَانَ خَيْرًا لِي؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَشَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ «أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنِّي حَمَلْتُ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقَاتَلْتُ حَتَّى أُقْتَلَ أَكَانَ خَيْرًا لِي وَلَمْ أُصَلِّ صَلَاةً غَيْرَ أَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَحَمَلَ فَضَارَبَ فَقَتَلَ وَقُتِلَ ثُمَّ تَعَاوَرُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقُتِلَ» فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «عَمِلَ يَسِيرًا وَأُجِرَ كَثِيرًا» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ «رَقِّيٌّ جَزَرِيٌّ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَاجِدَاءَ ثِقَةٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ حِمْصِيٌّ ثِقَةٌ»

Translation

✧ A masked man in iron armor came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, “What do you think—if I embrace Islam, will it be better for me?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Then I bear witness that there is no deity but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.” Then he said, “O Messenger of God, what do you think—if I charge at the people and fight until I am killed, will it be better for me, though I have not prayed a single prayer, except that I bear witness that there is no deity but God and that you are the Messenger of God?” He said, “Yes.” So he charged and struck, and he killed and was killed. Then they set upon him and killed him. The Prophet ﷺ said, “He did little and was rewarded much.” Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman said: Husayn b. ʿAyyash is a Raqqan, a Jazari from Bajadda', trustworthy; and ʿAli b. ʿAyyash is a Himsi, trustworthy.
