أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ كِنَانَةَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَدْنَا فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ؟» قَالُوا لَا قَالَ «لَكِنِّي أَفْقِدُ جُلَيْبِيبًا انْطَلِقُوا فَالْتَمِسُوهُ فِي الْقَتْلَى» فَإِذَا هُوَ قُتِلَ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ سَبْعَةٌ قَدْ قَتَلَهُمْ ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأُخْبِرَ فَجَاءَ حَتَّى قَامَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ قَتَلَ سَبْعَةً ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ قَتَلَ سَبْعَةً ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ» يَقُولُهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ حَمَلَهُ عَلَى سَاعِدِهِ مَا لَهُ سَرِيرٌ إِلَّا سَاعِدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حَتَّى حُفِرَ لَهُ وَدُفِنَ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ غُسْلًا

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met the enemy and said, "Do you miss anyone?" They said, "Yes, we miss so-and-so and so-and-so." He said, "Do you miss anyone?" a second time. They said, "No." He said, "But I miss Julaybib. Go and look for him among the slain." There he was, killed beside seven whom he had killed, and then they killed him. The Prophet ﷺ was informed and came until he stood over him and said, "He is of me and I am of him. He killed seven, then they killed him. He is of me and I am of him. He killed seven, then they killed him." He said it twice. Then he carried him on his forearm; he had no bier except the forearm of the Prophet ﷺ until a grave was dug for him and he was buried, and he was not washed.
