أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّوَارِبِ الْبَصْرِيُّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ

أَنَّ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ اتِيَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ فَاحِشَةً وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا فَرَدَّهُ مِرَارًا فَسَأَلَ قَوْمٌ أَبِهِ بَأْسٌ؟ قِيلَ «مَا بِهِ بَأْسٌ فَأَمَرَنَا فَانْطَلَقْنَا بِهِ إِلَى بَقِيعِ الْغَرْقَدِ فَلَمْ نَحْفُرْ لَهُ وَلَمْ نَوثِقْهُ فَرَمَيْنَاهُ بَخَزَفِ وَجَنْدَلٍ فَسَعَى وَابْتَدَرْنَا خَلْفَهُ فَأَتَى الْحَرَّةَ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ كَلَامًا مَعْنَاهُ فَانْتَصَبَ لَنَا فَرَمَيْنَاهُ بِجَلَامِيدٍ حَتَّى سَكَنَ»

✧ Ma‘iz b. Malik was brought to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “I have committed an indecency.” He mentioned a word meaning that. The Prophet ﷺ turned him away several times. Then he asked some people, “Is there anything wrong with him?” It was said, “There is nothing wrong with him.” So he ordered us, and we took him to Baqi‘ al-Gharqad. We did not dig a hole for him or tie him up. We threw at him pieces of baked clay and stones. He ran, and we hurried after him until he reached the lava field. Then he mentioned words meaning that he stood still for us, and we threw large stones at him until he became still.
