أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَبَّانُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْبَصْرِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شَيْخًا يُحَدِّثُ عَمْرَو بْنَ عُثْمَانَ الْقُرَشِيَّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ حُبْلَى فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهَا قَدْ بَغَتْ فَارْجُمْهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اسْتَتِرِي بِسِتْرِ اللهِ» فَذَهَبَتْ ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ فَقَالَتْ ارْجُمْهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اسْتَتِرِي بِسِتْرِ اللهِ فَرَجَعَتْ ثُمَّ جَاءَتِ الثَّالِثَةَ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ فَأَخَذَتْ بِاللِّجَامِ فَقَالَتْ أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ إِلَّا رَجَمْتَهَا قَالَ «انْطَلِقِي فَلِدِي» فَانْطَلَقَتْ فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَكَلَّمَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ انْطَلِقِي فَتَطَهَّرِي مِنَ الدَّمِ فَانْطَلَقَتْ فَتَطَهَّرَتْ مِنَ الدَّمِ ثُمَّ جَاءَتْ فَبَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى نِسْوَةٍ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ أَنْ يَسْتَبْرِئْنَهَا وَأَنْ يَنْظُرْنَ أَطَهُرَتْ مِنَ الدَّمِ؟ فَجِئْنَ فَشَهِدْنَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِطُهْرِهَا فَأَمَرَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِحُفْرَةٍ إِلَى ثِنْدُوَتِهَا ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ هُوَ وَالْمُسْلِمُونَ فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ فَأَخَذَ حَصَاةً كَأَنَّهَا حِمَّصَةٌ أَوْ مِثْلَ الْحِمِّصَةِ فَرَمَاهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ «ارْمُوهَا وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَجْهَهَا» فَرَمُوهَا حَتَّى طُفِئَتْ فَأَمَرَ بِإِخْرَاجِهَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَوْ قُسِمَ أَجْرُهُا بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْحِجَازِ لَوَسِعَهُمْ»

✧ I witnessed the Prophet ﷺ while he was standing beside his mule. A pregnant woman came to him and said, “She has committed fornication, so stone her.” The Prophet ﷺ said to her, “Veil yourself with the veil of Allah.” She went away, then returned to the Prophet ﷺ while he was still standing beside his mule and said, “Stone her.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Veil yourself with the veil of Allah.” She went back, then came a third time while he was standing beside his mule. She took hold of the bridle and said, “I adjure you by Allah to stone her.” He said, “Go and give birth.” So she went and gave birth to a boy. She brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ spoke to him, then said, “Go and purify yourself from the blood.” She went and purified herself from the blood, then came back. The Prophet ﷺ sent for some women and ordered them to ascertain that she was free from menstrual blood and to see whether she had become pure from the blood. They came and testified before the Prophet ﷺ to her purity. The Prophet ﷺ ordered a pit to be dug for her up to her chest. Then he and the Muslims came forward. He gestured with his hand, took a pebble the size of a chickpea or like a chickpea, and threw it at her. Then he said to the Muslims, “Stone her, but avoid her face.” They stoned her until she died. He ordered that she be taken out, then he prayed over her and said, “If her reward were divided among the people of the Hijaz, it would suffice them.”
