أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ وَشِبْلٍ قَالُوا كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُكَ بِاللهِ قَضَيْتَ بَيْنَنَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَقَامَ خَصْمُهُ وَكَانَ أَفْقَهَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ أَجَلِ اقْضِ بَيْنَنَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ قَالَ «قُلْ» قَالَ إِنَّ ابْنِي كَانَ عَسِيفًا عَلَى هَذَا فَزَنَى بِامْرَأَتِهِ فَافْتَدَيْتُ مِنْهُ بِمِائَةِ شَاةٍ وَخَادِمٍ كَأَنَّهُ أُخْبِرَ أَنَّهُ عَلَى ابْنِهِ الرَّجْمُ فَافْتَدَى بِهِ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُ رِجَالًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فَأَخْبَرُونِي أَنَّ عَلَى ابْنِي جَلْدَ مِائَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبَ عَامٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَأَقْضِيَنَّ بَيْنَكُمَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ الْمِائَةُ شَاةٍ وَالْخَادِمُ رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى ابْنِكَ جَلْدُ مِائَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبُ عَامٍ وَاغْدُ يَا انَيْسُ عَلَى امْرَأَةِ هَذَا فَإِنِ اعْتَرَفَتْ فَارْجُمْهَا فَغَدَا عَلَيْهَا فَاعْتَرَفَتْ فَرَجَمَهَا»

✧ From Abu Hurayra, Zayd b. Khalid, and Shibl, they said: We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ when a man stood up to him and said: I adjure you by God, have you judged between us by the Book of God? His opponent stood up, and he was more learned than him, and said: Yes, judge between us by the Book of God. He said: “Speak.” He said: My son was a hired worker for this man, and he committed fornication with his wife. I was told that my son was to be stoned, so I ransomed him with a hundred sheep and a servant. Then I asked men of knowledge, and they told me that my son was to be given a hundred lashes and exiled for a year. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, I will judge between you by the Book of God. The hundred sheep and the servant are returned to you, and upon your son is a hundred lashes and exile for a year. Go, O Unays, to this man’s wife, and if she confesses, stone her.” He went to her, she confessed, and he stoned her.
